Jerry Powers

While most of my work records specific aspects of the island, I also spend time painting abstractly, probably because it is a more of an adventure; the objective is unclear and tantalizingly out of sight, and then suddenly a bit is revealed through the process of putting paint on canvas. My more naturalistic painting is the result of trying to capture the same elusive qualities in images revealed to me by chance in the everyday world. The paintings shown here will be in the gallery through July 10th.
